Sherawat was born Reema Lamba in
Rohtak,
Haryana to a
Jat family.

Seth Chhaju Ram, a leading Jat
philanthropist.

[8] She adopted the screen name of "Mallika", meaning "empress", to avoid confusion with other actresses named Reema.
